Garden: Week 14

Our 1st cherry tomato!  Elena made an edible salad with a nasturtium flower  :)

The before we picked the cherry tomato and ate it picture :)
 Blueberries are ripe
 harvested
and all 12 have been enjoyed.  Some people think I am crazy for spending $8 on a bush to only get 12 berries but I have to say it is so much fun.  Gardening is my hobby.  The bush will come back and be even better next year.  There is something primal and invigorating when you forage for your food.  We love it!
It's been a busy week around here and we didn't get out to the garden much this week.  Too bad because our apples started falling on the ground.  We found 3 down there, 1 rotting and 2 freshly fallen.
Excited to finally be harvesting apples!
Snow white nectarines started feeling a little soft on the tree so we pulled a few off.  Their color is a bit different this year but I'm sure the heat surge of 100+ temps a few weeks ago had something to do with that.  We'll see how they taste in a few days.
A plum is starting to turn colors, exciting!
Here is our apple and nectarine harvest done last night.
Look at this beautiful zucchini!  We are grilling this up for dinner tonight.
In this sad spot once laid my beautiful green bean plants.  Only 3 remain.  :(
Somebody has been chewing off the plants and hauling them away.  Who would do such a thing?
The nutterbutter squash are doing great.  There are several growing now.
The little yellow ones are about an inch long, they were not fertilized.  I suppose we could eat them but I just pop them off and compost them.
I'm not sure how to tell when squash is done but the stem was drying up and turning brown.  It snapped easily, so I suppose it is ready.  You can see there were several splits and all healed up.  I'm looking forward to baking this up and tasting some homegrown butternut squash :)
Ahh, sunflowers.  What else can I say?  Don't they just light up your day?
I just love them!!

  1. Rachel you are great gardener! Beautiful plants! I don't think I have ever seen a red sunflower. To make a Blueberry Crisp you will have to buy several more bushes!
    Good job Rachel!
