A New Garden

The one sad part about moving is that you leave your garden behind and have to start over.
The new house has a lot of landscaping and flowers but no established garden space or fruit trees.  In the front yard we do have avocado trees growing.  I estimate they are 3-4 years old so we probably have another 2-3 years before they flower and fruit.

We finally finished 1 raised bed garden.  It is 8'x4' and we planted two different tomato plants and a bell pepper start along with the following in seeds: basil, cucumbers, snow peas, green beans, melon, zucchini, spinach, lettuce, carrots, and onions.  The garden is about 1/4 the size of our garden last year but in the coming years, we will expand the garden and end up with much more garden space.  I can't wait...there is so much I want to grow!
I have also picked up three fruit trees.  A plum, pluot (plum-apricot) and a pluerry (plum-cherry).  I've also sketched out a plan for many more fruit trees (we had 16 at the old house) but I am limited in transporting them back to the house.  Above, a hole was dug for the plum and Charlie is watering the whole to ensure we have good drainage.  Charlie loves the hose!
Elena is now watering the hole for the pluerry, a tree she picked out.  It does sound yummy, doesn't it?  We've never tasted the fruit but we're going to give it a try!

Being so much closer to the coast (we are 6 miles as the crow flies) puts us in a different climate than the other house.  Our summers won't be nearly as hot and our winters won't be nearly as chilly.  The weather sounds great to me but growing fruit trees other than citrus can be a bit tricky.  There are a limited number of trees that will fruit in our climate...I know, tough problem to have, isn't it?
