These naked pictures were taken March 8th. We started some extra naked time because it has been warm, Charlie has been suffering from diaper rash and the cloth diapers we are using (from Elena) are starting to disintegrate.
Charlie loves naked time and being diaper free!
Love his smiley face!
Well while Charlie has been enjoying his diaper free time, I was introduced to Elimination Communication. Parents/caregivers learn and read the baby's body language and when the baby is ready to urinate or have a bowl movement, the baby is placed on a potty. The theory is that babies do not want to soil themselves but we train them to do that when we put them in diapers. Then, we train them again to use the potty when they are toddlers. Parents in other countries use Elimination Communication especially when they don't have access to diapers.
I'm sure you are skeptical, I was at first. It has only been a week since Charlie was introduced to the potty but when I am paying attention and read Charlie's cues, he potties when placed on the potty. When he is doing his business, I tell him what he is doing and I grunt. He has learned grunt = bowl movement and he will grunt before he poos. How awesome is that?! And look how happy he is using the potty!! He actually fusses when I put a diaper on him now.
This afternoon while Charlie was playing on the floor, belly scooted over to his potty and tried playing with it. My first reaction would be to move him and redirect his attention to something more appropriate to play with. Instead I pulled off his diaper and sat him on the potty. Surprise! This baby pooped and peed on the potty! Not sure if this is a fluke or if he really understands; either way this is a proud mama!!
